Actual Size World Map

The map was an attempt at a compromise between distorting the areas of continents and the angles of coordinate line. In fact opioid overdose deaths accounted for nearly 70 of all drug overdose deaths in 2018. Probably most of us are familiar with the famous saying ‘my whole life was a lie,’ and we hate to tell you that, but it most likely was when it comes to the world map as we know it.

It was inspired by a similar animation that i saw on reddit and decided i wanted to try to build the same thing. Check out this clever graphic which helps put. Visually speaking, canada and russia appear to take up approximately 25% of the earth’s surface, when in reality they occupy a mere 5%.

Popular youtube science channel vsauce did a detailed video explaining this, which in short says: It’s very fascinating to simply take a look at the entire world map and see the amazing areas that include oceans mountains, continents. And none of these projections can be titled 'the real world map,' just because they all depict the same earth through a different lens. Pressing on the button animates the country ‘shrinking’ to its actual size or ‘growing’ to the size shown on the mercator projection.
